Meet Sheryl

"I am on a mission to positively reframe the way we think about mental health and wellness as a community by promoting the message that mental health and wellness matters at every age and every stage of life ”

As a little girl I was exposed to lots of books by my parents; and by lots, I mean that there were so many books that we had a study in our home dedicated to storing them, with built-in bookshelves from the floor to the ceiling spanning the perimeter of the room. My mom chose buying books over baby-dolls, and my dad loves to remind me that at one point I said “don’t buy any more books mommy”.

I now treasure that foundation because it enabled me to have precious memories of reading the newspaper to my grandmother when she couldn’t, and playing library on the porch with my friends.

Those experiences sparked my passion for writing, and serve as sweet reminders of how and why I started my work.

As a new professional counselor, I began to think about the ways in which I could be more impactful in my work; while honoring my creative passion for writing so I decided that I would establish a self-publishing company: SDA Publishing, LLC. This company is dedicated to creating literary work that promotes the message that "Mental Health and Wellness Matters at every age and every stage of life”; and is the channel through which I intend to self-publish children's books, journals, and self-help workbooks.

My work with survivors of childhood sexual trauma coupled with my own life experiences inspired my first book No Sad Secrets! The book is available in two versions:

  1. No Sad Secrets! Jasmine learns what to do when keeping secrets make her sad

  2. No Sad Secrets! Justin learns what to do when keeping secrets make him sad

Originally from Clarendon, Jamaica, I came to the United States at the age of 15. I attended college at the University of South Florida where I received a Bachelors degree in Criminology. I later studied at Liberty University and received a Masters degree in Professional Counseling. At this time in my career, I am currently a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern listed with the Florida Department of Health Board of CSW, MFT, and MHC. It is my desire to strengthen the emotional wellness of my community by deepening the conversations we have around mental health across the life span. Thank you again for visiting my website!
